Who am I? I am currently working for Yello Strom, a German energy and service supplier. I am based in Cologne, in the middle of a wondeful, very active and creative team.

I am acting at the same time as Director Europe, Home Technologies, for the EDF Group. EDF Group has 40 million customers throughout Europe, and is one of the leading electric power and energy suppliers in the world.

Why Home Technologies? Because it is the next wave of pervasive, embedded IT technologies. Why energy? Because it is one of the leading services that will be made possible through Home Technologies: bringing automation and energy savings to everybody. And because better IT+energy is one of the things the world currently needs, and something I hope I can help to happen.

I started in this new position in January 2009.

Formerly, I spent 5 years and a half at CEA Technological Research Division. I was in charge of programme strategy and european affairs, covering topics going from computing architectures to embedded systems, software, and cognitive systems. CEA-DRT, with its three units LIST, LETI and LITEN, is a major actor in France in the area of Micro and Nano technology, software intensive systems, and new energy technology. It brings together more than 2,000 permanent researchers in Grenoble and Saclay. It is mainly financed through industrial and institutional contracts.

I have been until 2007 president of the evaluation of the Software Technology programme, which is funded and organized by the French Agence Nationale de la Recherche, with the help of the Réseau National des Technologies Logicielles (RNTL).

I have been much involved in the ARTEMIS Joint Undertaking on Embedded Systems, which is the major European initiative in this field. I acted as member of its Steering Board, and I had the honour to represent European Research in the field at its Presidium.

Formerly, I worked for 18 years at Electricité de France. So my current position is a kind of coming back!

I first studied mathematics, at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Saint-Cloud, (now located in Lyon) where I passed agrégation. Then I got a PhD in Artificial Intelligence with Pr. Jean-Louis Laurière1 at Paris 6 University.

Since then, I have worked and published in various areas : qualitative physics and calculus, rule-based systems, expert systems, with many industrial applications as well as scientific publications. Then I turned to automatic program generation from mathematical specifications.

This last project I worked on while at EDF was known as Descartes. I was the head of it, and we managed to build a program generator prototype - almost 2,000,000 lines of generated C lines.

I have also worked on automatic program generation within the area of physical systems simulation (a piece of work related to Scilab and Modelica).

I am also interested in economy, notably the information technology and software industry. I have written several reports, devoted to the general contect or to issues particular to an industrial or technological domain.

I am also married with Brigitte, and we have two children: Elen & Mael.

They all have their own web sites - well, they are no web addicts. So, I will let them introduce themselves..

I have no particular hobby, except reading, listening to music, cinema, playing the piano, riding my bicycle, skiing, traveling, ...

Well, you know, all the things one does when one's not working...

1Jean-Louis Laurière sadly left us in August 2005. A scientific day was devoted to his work in March 2006, see.
